Thierry Tidrow is a Canadian composer who has won multiple awards and has a special predilection for vocal music and musical theatre. His daring synthesis of various styles, combined with a thought-out treatment of text and sound, is designed to reveal hidden meanings; his dramaturgical instinct leads to surprising narrative forms of expression.
His works have been performed by numerous musicians and ensembles (including Thomas Hampson, Sarah Maria Sun, the Klangforum Vienna, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Garage and hand werk) and his stage oeuvre comprises several operas (both for children and adults) which have been performed at various opera houses (including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Darmstadt State Theatre, the Semper Opera in Dresden, the Gießen Municipal Theatre, and the Baden State Theatre in Karlsruhe). From 2019 to 2022, he was composer-in-residence at the Dortmund Opera; in 2024, his children’s opera ›Sagt der Walfisch zum Thunfisch‹ (As the Whale said to the Tuna) opened NEST, the new venue of the Vienna State Opera.
