Today, the Frankfurt Radio Big Band (hr-Bigband) is one of the world's best formations of its kind. Based on the playing ideal and virtuosity of jazz, it represents a wide range of styles and genres. The ensemble of the Hessischer Rundfunk (German Public Radio of Hesse), consisting of 17 top-class soloists, brings international greats of the music scene to Hessen and enriches the development of the genre with composition and arrangement commissions. It regularly receives invitations from renowned concert halls and music festivals in Germany and abroad. Thanks to the wide-ranging scope of its work, the Frankfurt Radio Big Band enjoys an outstanding reputation both nationally and internationally. This is evidenced by four Grammy nominations, two Echo music awards and multiple prizes from the German Record Critics. In order to pass on the flame, the Frankfurt Radio Big Band is intensively involved in promoting young talent. Numerous offers provide young people with up-close musical experiences and thus motivate young musicians to be active themselves. The Frankfurt Radio Big Band is present in all media outlets: from radio broadcasts of its concert recordings by hr2-kultur and the European Broadcasting Union to digital streams on social media channels. Selected concert recordings are broadcast by hr-fernsehen or can be found in the ARD Mediathek.
