Hed Bahack (b. 1994) is a composer from Israel, based in Leipzig, Germany. In his works he seeks to synthesize the visceral, physical experience of sound with psychological and conceptual exploration, while aiming to incorporate perception and psychoacoustics as essential elements. Common themes in his compositions include the in-between, the dialectic between opposites, and the pursuit of the utopian.
His works have been performed by ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Ascolta, Quatuor Diotima, the Mivos Quartet, Ensemble Multilatérale, and Meitar Ensemble, and by soloists such as Ilya Gringolts and Lawrence Power.
Hed Bahack has received several awards, including Israel’s Culture Minister Composition Prize (2024), the Israel Composers’ League ›Klon‹ 1st Prize (2023), the Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie 1st Prize (2023), and the ›Szymanowski‹ 2nd Prize (2022) He has also been awarded scholarships from Deutscher Musikrat (2022), the America-Israel Foundation (2022–2025), and the Rabinovich Foundation (2024). He has participated in artist residencies such as ›NODUS‹ in Les Coves de Vinromà, Spain (2022), the Akademie Kontemporär in Hamburg (2023), Otte-1 Künstlerhaus in Eckernförde, Germany (2024) and the mare-Künstlerhaus in Wentorf bei Hamburg (2025).
He completed his music composition studies with honors, at Tel Aviv University with Ruben Seroussi, at Leipzig University of Music with Fabien Lévy and at Barenboim-Said-Akademie with Jörg Widmann.
