The composer Justė Janulytė is known for her minimalist, monochromatic sonic landscapes, which she shapes with a delicate instinct for the perfect dramaturgy of pending, or suspeded processes. She toys with the merging of individual voices in a collective mass, leaving the transitions almost inaudible. The Frankfurt Radio Symphony now performs the world premiere of her new work, ›Uccelli et altre cose‹. ›The Desert Music‹, a monumental minimal music classic for chorus and orchestra by Steve Reich, is a metaphor for everything science considers hive behaviour. Reich uses the repetitive patterns so typical for his music, continuously making minimal changes to them, which leads them to shift as if in slow motion. Reich’s »phase shifting« evokes associations with the movements of large flocks of birds or schools of fish.
