Together, the two Festival presenters dedicate themselves to its motto, SCHWÄRMEN – swarming to swooning. They explore how sounds organise themselves, becoming a superorganism – a community which is more than the sum of its parts. In his work ›Superorganisms‹, the composer Miroslav Srnka transfers this phenomenon to the orchestra: at times, the individual sparkles; then again, the shared pulse dominates the action – a musical adventure illustrating the power of togetherness. Conlon Nancarrow’s ›Studies‹, presented in the chamber music version, unfold a polyrhythmic, grooving, multi-coloured structural texture.
In Rebecca Saunders’ ›Wound‹, fragile lines and orchestral density, vulnerable intimacy and brusque defensiveness collide – an emotionally charged work full of sonic lesions. Three works, three perspectives on the interplay of many individual voices:
an evening about collective intelligence, sonic self-organization and the beauty of a complex whole.
