Kulturstiftung des Bundes
The German Federal Cultural Foundation is one of the largest cultural foundations distributing public funding in Europe. With annual funding of 38 million Euros from the budget of the State Minister of Cultural and Media Affairs, it has supported more than 2,000 projects since its inception in 2002. One of its main priorities is to finance innovative programmes and projects on an international level, providing culture in Germany with lasting, effective impulses. The Cultural Foundation also examines the cultural dimension of social issues and initiates programmes and events of its own. In addition, applications are accepted twice a year for projects from all artistic disciplines, e.g. visual and performing arts, literature, music, dance, film, architecture and new media. An interdisciplinary expert jury adjudicates the applications for support. Apart from funding contemporary art and culture, the Foundation also supports cultural education and sustainability projects as well as the maintenance of cultural heritage. The Cultural Foundation enables outstanding cultural institutions and festivals to achieve planning security for several years through its support. These cultural beacons include the documenta in Kassel, the Berlin Theatre Meeting, the Donaueschingen Music Days, the Dance Congress, Berlin Biennial, transmediale and Ensemble Modern.
