Funky and spacy sounds are guaranteed when the Frankfurt Radio Big Band gets its hands on music by Sun Ra and George Clinton. The concept and musical rendition of the original material makes worlds collide: Samúel Jón Samúelsson, the leader, arranger and trombonist from Reykjavik who heads the big band, is a specialist in Afro-Beat and Funk and has started exploring and arranging the musical legacy of the Afro-American jazz and funk legends for the Frankfurt Radio Big Band. The ensemble will join forces for this evening with a guest artist, the Swedish-Ethiopian experimental vocalist Sofia Jernberg, who has made an outstanding name for herself in recent years as an improviser and performer.
