IzM der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst
The Institut für zeitgenössische Musik (IzM or Institute for Contemporary Music) was founded at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt in 2005. An interdepartmental interface, it offers a contemporary music curriculum. This includes workshops, colloquia and lectures by guest docents as well as concerts, lecture series and symposia. The IzM initiates interdisciplinary projects, working with regional and national cooperation partners: Ensemble Modern, the Alte Oper Frankfurt and the Frankfurt Opera, Hessian Radio, the Senckenberg Museum of Nature, the archive Frau und Musik e.V., the Hessian State Theatre and Museum Wiesbaden, the Donaueschingen Music Days and the Schwetzinger SWR Festival. The Institute reflects events on the regional and national cultural scene, making them part of academic life. Thus, the IzM teaches contemporary music both inside and outside the institution. Since the winter semester 2006/2007 Ensemble Modern and the Academy of Music and Performing Arts have offered the joint Master’s degree course »International Ensemble Modern Academy«.
