The composer and improviser Vladimir Gorlinsky was born in Moscow in 1984. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory (Vladimir Tarnopolski), where nowadays he gives lessons at the Contemporary Music Department. He attended master classes with Beat Furrer, Peter Ablinger, Brian Ferneyhough, Raphael Cendo, Philippe Leroux, and Georges Aperghis. He is the author of several spatial compositions such as: »Resonance #2. The Finger of God«(2011) created for 8 performers, situated outside of the concert hall; »Paramusic #2« (2012) and »She-wolf« (2013), performed within the space of the fort of Liefkenshoek, Kallo city; »The book of games« (2013), exhibition of fragments of music at the festival »Transit«, Leuven city. He is also the author of the spatial performances made for the Moscow Manezh (2013), for the Winzavod (2014) and for the Not yet opened space (2015).
In the years 2014-2015 he took part in creation of two theatre pieces at the Meyerhold Center: in the first one as a composer, and in the second one as a performer (motion, sound). In May 2016, Vladimir Gorlinsky organized the laboratory Dreamtory — dedicated to musical research into the question of the human perception of time, and also the theme of hours-long improvisation with possibilities of playing and drifting into sleep during a performance.
His works have been broadcasted and performed in Europe, Asia and Australia by ensembles and soloists such as Klangforum Wien, KNM, Nikel, Nadar, Vertixe Sonora, KontraTrio, Insomnio, Ereprijs, Seyanapёsahl, Nostri Temporis, eNsemble, NoName, MCME, Studio for New Music, the trumpeter Marko Blaauw, Javier Hagen and Natalia Pshenichnikova. Conductors of his works have included Enno Poppe and Teodor Currentzis; they have also been performed by the Russian National Orchestra.
His music has been heard at the Witten Days for New Chamber Music, the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music, the Acht Brücken Festival, pgnm festival, Kasseler Musiktage, SWR and WDR concerts (Germany), the Venice Biennal, Festival d’Avignon, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Wien modern, Impuls, Fortissimo, Transit, the concerts of the Ums’n’Jip Ensemble, Rostrum, ISCM, 2D2N, Gogol Fest, Moscow Autumn, Moscow Forum, Pithian Games, Other Space, Sound trajectory, and others.
Gorlinsky is a member of the duet МЯУ [meow], the trio Takoye and the group Chthonic Gap.
