Born in Rome in 1963, Lucia Ronchetti studied Composition and Computer Music at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and Philosophy at the University of Rome. In Paris, she took composition seminars with Gérard Grisey, participated in the annual computer music courses at IRCAM (1997) and obtained her PhD in musicology at the École Pratique des Hautes Études en Sorbonne, under the direction of François Lesure (1999). In 2005 she was Visiting Scholar (Fulbright fellow) at the Columbia University MusicDepartment in New York, at the invitation of Tristan Murail.
Lucia Ronchetti has frequently been composer in residence: Villa Concordia Yaddo, New York; Staatsoper of Stuttgart; MacDowell Colony, Boston; Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart; Schloss Werdenberg, Switzerland; and was funded by Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD)
In 2021 the Oper Frankfurt presented the new opera ›Inferno‹, conducted by Tito Ceccherini. The Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin produced the chamber opera ›Pinocchios Abenteuer‹. A new opera project will be create at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf. In 2020, the Neue Vocalsolisten performed ›Never bet the devil your head‹ at the Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik 2020. The Ensemble Vocal Sequenza 9.3, conducted by Catherine Simonpietri, has premiered ›Sangu di rosa‹, Commande de l’Etat of the French Ministry of Culture 2019, in the context of the Defilé Dior. The Ensemble Modern has presented a portrait of Lucia Ronchetti in the Happy New Ears concert series.
In 2021 Lucia Ronchetti was teacher of composition at the Ferienkurse of Darmstadt and visiting professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt. From 2021 till 2024 she has been appointed artistic director of the Biennale Musica in Venezia
