Baldur Brönnimann has established himself as one of the finest conductors ofcontemporary music across the world. He has worked at the highest level withcomposers such as John Adams, Kaija Saariaho, Harrison Birtwistle, Unsuk Chin,Helmut Lachenmann, Magnus Lindberg, Georg Friedrich Haas, has performed atfestivals such as the BBC Proms, Wien Modern, Darmstadt, Mostly Mozart at LincolnCenter and has conducted significant performances of major works by composerssuch as Ligeti, Romitelli, Boulez, Vivier and Zimmermann. A conductor of greatflexibility, with a broad-minded approach to programme-building and music-making, hebelieves strongly in the importance of educational and outreach opportunities, and theneed to question the traditional boundaries of classical music. He is PrincipalConductor of the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música and PrincipalConductor of the Basel Sinfonietta.
Highlights from recent seasons include projects with the Seoul Philharmonic, OsloPhilharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic, WDR Symphony,Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Aurora and Munich Chamber orchestras;highlights of his guest conducting in 2019/20 include returns to the Frankfurt RadioSymphony Orchestra, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra for a performance of Schnebel’s epic Tenth Symphony at the Musikverein, and his debut with the Orquestay Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid. He also works regularly with contemporary musicensembles across the globe, including Klangforum Wien both in Vienna and on tourand the Ensemble Intercontemporain whom he conducted at the BBC Proms in aprogramme celebrating the music of Pierre Boulez.
